Heat recovery is a sustainable and innovative solution for our district heating because it is based on creating strategic partnerships between A2A and local businesses, data centres and communities. 

Thanks to collaboration between industrial production sectors and energy distribution networks, heat that would otherwise be dispersed becomes a resource, reducing CO2 emissions and giving new life to energy that is already available. This approach not only consolidates efforts to create circular economy models but also contributes to the creation of more resilient, more aware communities by transforming heat wastage into an opportunity for progress and sustainability. Heat storage

Heat when it is needed, more efficiently

Heat storage units are systems able to store energy in the form of hot water when demand for heat is lower. In this way, we make the best possible use of the heat that we put back into the network to heat buildings when necessary, for example to meet higher demand in the morning.

Our main storage units are at Milan’s Canavese district heating facility, at Brescia’s Nord and Lamarmora plants and at the Goltara site in Bergamo.

Development of geothermal energy

Of all renewable sources, we have chosen to invest in geothermal energy because it is a sustainable, constant and reliable solution for the production of heat and electricity. 

 

Thanks to the natural heat present below the ground, we can guarantee uninterrupted, low-emission energy procurement while contributing to the energy transition of the towns and cities that we serve. 

 

Our geothermal infrastructures, integrated into the district heating networks, enable us to reduce the use of fossil fuels and increase the overall efficiency of the system. We are convinced that geothermal energy constitutes a fundamental resource for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
